I got a popup saying "Windows protected your pc" Is this normal?

The client probably doesn't have a company certificate yet. Windows doesn't recognize the program so it does this automatically.

That is true it did say Unknown publisher.

Windows Defender popups are based on if the application is signed. Signing an application costs money.
