I'm thinking of making a level with lots of water, but people always say water is laggy...

Why? In what situations? How can I avoid lag in my level?
Please enlighten me.....

Tenslant upgraded his hardware and now thinks everyone else should upgrade just to play a robot 64 clone that's 5x less graphically and mechanically intense than a Gamecube game, so I would mostly disregard his reply.

The claims about water being laggy actually do seem overexaggerated though. At least for me, one of the only sources of consistent lag i've noticed with water is when a bunch of blocks (ie the entire level) are colliding with a giant water block, IIRC Carl stated this was the cause of most of the lag in Bopimo! Tutorial and i'm pretty sure he's right as one time he removed the water from it and there was noticeably less lag, and I also noticed a large block of water being a source of lag whilst I was working on my own level (which is why I replaced the water with fake water)

Of course there are also lag spikes caused by the camera entering water, but that's not really avoidable and they usually stop happening the first few times you do that anyway. That's something that would have to be fixed client side
(Gee, If only we had a client developer that actually cared about the playerbase and communicated with their testers and didn't gaslight their fans for 8 months into thinking this game would be updated in any way shape or form, just for him to quit without even pushing out a band-aid fix for any of the game's problems so he can work on a minecraft clone! If we did then this thread probably wouldn't even exist!!! The problem with bopimo isn't even that it's not getting any new updates, the problem is that it was left in a state where it is actively difficult for the game's main demographic to even god damn run it and there were almost no attempts to alleviate that issue besides an update that did very little and was immediately reverted anyway!!! HAHahhrehehhhehhehHEHAHHAHAHAHSHAASDHFB I LUV WASTED POTENTIAL!21!!!11321!!! I LUV EVERYTHING SURROUNDING THIS GAME!!!! LIKE THE DECAYING SLOWLY GENTRIFIED COMMUNITY THAT WILL IGNORE EVERYTHING YOU SAY OR MOCK YOU AND IMPLY THAT YOUR VERY PRESENCE IS PROBLEMATIC WHILST TREATING UNCREATIVE LAZY PLAGIARISTS WITH NO HUMOR WHO WILL ALWAYS TAKE CHEAP AND DIRTY SHORTCUTS FOR EVERYTHING LIKE HOLY SAINTS WHO CAN DO NO WRONG WHATSOEVER!!! AND I ESPECIALLY LOVE THE NONEXISTENT DEVELOPMENT THAT SOMEHOW PUTS THIS GAME IN A WORSE STATE THAN BRICK HILL WAS!!! THOSE 4 YEARS WERE REALLY WORTH THE WAIT!!! HELL I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MORE THAN 4 YEARS CAUSE I'VE WANTED A 3D MARIO MAKER SINCE I WAS A KID!!! ITS ALMOST AS IF I PLAY THIS GAME AND CARE ABOUT THIS STUFF CAUSE I ACTUALLY LIKE IT!!! BASIC COMMUNICATION AND HAVING STANDARDS ON THE MODERN INTERNET IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF ELDRITCH HORROR!!!)

Also I'd be down to playtest your level if you need help figuring out anything else which might be causing lag :D

Thanks for the lead on the big water thing!
For playtesting, it won't be any time soon, but I'll consider you
