moons are an upcoming feature that'll let level creators add optional collectibles to levels (like the blue coins in mt. gingerbread or other levels which currently do nothing)

think of them like the yoshi coins from super mario world, or the star coins from almost every other mario game

they won't be necessary for completing a level but will be neat things you can get that'll give you awesome clout and swag
